Get More Vits are pleased to announce the launch of our Tropical flavoured sparkling sports can, Active BCAA!
BCAA stands for ‘branched-chain amino acids’ which are a group of essential amino acids made up of leucine, isoleucine and valine. There are 20 amino acids that constitute protein and 9 which are considered essential, this is because they can’t be produced by our bodies and must be obtained from food.
Most people take BCAA supplements for muscular gains and for good reason – evidence shows that BCAAs help to build muscle, ease achy muscles after exercise and reduce fatigue.
Leucine is considered the most beneficial for gym lovers as it helps to stimulate muscle growth, one study into BCAA drinks showed a 22% greater increase in muscle protein synthesis compared to those drinking a placebo.
DOMS stands for ‘delayed onset muscle syndrome’ and if after a heavy legs day you’ve not been able to climb stairs without wincing, you’ll know what we’re talking about. The good news is that BCAAs have been shown to protect against muscle damage during exercise, helping to reduce the length and severity of DOMS.
If you’re planning a big session in the gym or training for an endurance event, BCAAs can also help to reduce fatigue during exercise. Some studies have shown that supplementing with BCAAs helps to combat the increased production of another amino acid called tryptophan, which is converted into the neurotransmitter serotonin, contributing to feelings of tiredness.
Although supplementing with BCAAs can be helpful for exercise, doing so is not a necessity. BCAAs are found in all complete protein sources such as meat, fish and eggs, and to a lesser extent in vegetarian or vegan sources like beans and legumes. In addition, eating whole food sources of protein provides us with other essential amino acids and a wide range of complementary nutrients.
BCAAs aren’t just for sports people, as we age our muscles are naturally prone to ‘wasting’ as protein breakdown outweighs protein synthesis in the body. With BCAAs accounting for 35% of the essential amino acids found in muscle proteins, and 40% of the total amino acids required by our body it’s important that stores are replenished, ideally with a well-balanced and protein-rich diet, but in cases of chronic disease or malnutrition supplementing can be very helpful.
Get More Vits Active BCAA sports can also contains a blend of B vitamins, crucial to help the body use food as fuel, as well as caffeine, which in itself has its own benefits such as improved focus and performance, and thermogenesis to help burn more calories – making it the perfect pre-workout boost.
Get More Vits Active BCAA sports cans will be available in Tesco nationwide from 28th October.
